Ramayana Story

A delightful masked dance theatre for children.

Taken from the famous Indian Epic, gThe Ramayanah, this is the story of Prince Rama and Princess Sita and the Monkey God, Hanuman.

This is a story of good versus evil and how good triumphs at the end.

Prince Rama is exiled from his kingdom by his evil stepmother who wants her son to be King. He takes his wife, Princess Sita and together they go off into the woods. A golden deer appears.  Sita is enchanted by it and asks Rama to catch it for her.

He draws a magic circle around her to protect her and tells her not to leave the circle till he comes back. As soon as he had gone, the golden deer appears again and beckons her.  She follows him.   The deer is a demon in disguise.

As soon as she steps outside the circle, Ravana, the Demon King, appears and kidnaps her.Rama comes back to find her gone and weeps. Then Hanuman, the Monkey God, appears and Rama instructs him to go search for Sita. Hanuman journeys across the sea to Sri Lanka where Ravanafs palace is. There he finds Sita crying.

All Ravanafs wives are jealous of her and are mean to her. He whispers to Sita that her husband will be coming to rescue her soon. He goes back to get Rama and together they arrive at the palace. There Rama is confronted by Ravana and they have a dual. Rama wins.Ravana, defeated, bows and leaves.
Rama and Sita are united and live happily ever after.
