A contemporary Japanese Dance giving homage and praise to the earth.

Egiku Hanayagi was born into a traditional Japanese classical dance household.
She started training under her mother, Eikichi Hanayagi from the age of 2.

Egiku then realized the potential of the technique and subtlety of the Japanese dance form and started to interprete it in her own unique and contemporary way.
Instead of sticking to the traditional style, she began choreographing her own pieces using the technique and nuances of the traditional dance styles.
The result is a dance that incorporates the grace and the beauty of Japanese art and culture, yet has a contemporary sense that appeals and speaks to the audience in both Japan and abroad.

Her "Weaving Crane" has won the Japanese Government National Arts Award for her outstanding choreography.  It has been well acclaimed in Edinburgh, London, Montreal and Avignon.  She is a regular performer at the National Theatre in Tokyo and in the Avignon Public Off Festival.
She has been a regular performer at The Garage International in the various festivals such as Edinburgh, Montreal andAdelaide.

Audience will marvel at her precise movements and exquisite costumes and subtle yet strong expressions.
The dance is an abstraction yet has the ritualistic and shamanic feeling in it.
