In the spring of 1845, the American artist, adventurer, and showman George
Catlin arrived in France with a group of Ioway Indians. Catlin and
the Native Americans immediately became the talk of Paris. It was not known at the time that Catlin was also a cultural spy, sent by President Martin van Buren to investigate Europeans. The adventures of Catlin and the Ioways in France and the opinions of the French about Native Americans are the subjects of this one-man show, written and performed by Mark Johnson. Parts of "Fifi." are in English, and others are in French. This performance is a sequel to "Confessions of a Cultural Spy", which was performed at the Avignon Off in 2007.
