A thrilling
new Australian story by one of Brisbane's most dynamic new ensembles. Written by award winning Melbourne writer Anna Krien, with an original
electronic score and fearless performances by Experiment ONE, Flicking The Flint is a visual
landscape that fearlessly delves into the images of a boys forgotten past.
"The
best way to go is to get completely plastered and walk out into a blizzard. And
when the hypothermia kicks in your so drunk you don't even notice. You just get
real warm..."
Flicking
The Flint premiered in Brisbane Festival's 2009 UNDER THE RADAR. This is a
powerful piece with gripping physical performances. The original electronic
score combines elegantly with beautifully poetic language to create a series of
heart breaking impressions.
The boy in
Flicking The Flint is a tender combination of harsh survival and nurturing
love. Hefs compressed and explosive, rough and gentle.
Flicking
The Flint is about the senses: colour, space, smell, ambiguity and intimacy. It
is the idea of a boy struggling to be where he is, estranged from his parents,
addicted to lighting fires. He is a boy whose dad has died and is now tangled
in images of his past.
