Mieko Nishimura

Mieko Nishimura was born in Sendai in the the Northern Part of Japan.  She loved flowers since she was a little girl.  She graduated from Tokyo Arts University where she met her husband, Kosen Nishimura who is a very well known Buddhist sculptor.
They now live in the mountains in Kyoto in an artists village.

Mieko continues to live in nature and paint it.  She sees the flowers and trees and the clouds as heavenly creatures.  She sees all of nature as the eternal God and is devastated the way human beings are misusing and mistreating it.

Her message through Mayura, the Heavenly Bird is simply that we should all realize the preciousness of life and nature and of the little flowers.  Without them, life would be dull and sad.

The Heavenly Bird - Mayura  (slideshow/event)

When her first child was born, they name her Mayura, with the wish that she would grow up to change the world and bring happiness to it.

The Heavenly Bird, Mayura was created by a father and a mother with a wish that their loving child would grow up to appreciate and treasure this world.

The event is a storytelling with paintings. All paintings are by Mieko herself.

Music is by Kouei Nishimura, her husband's brother, who is also the head priest of the Otaginembutsuji Temple in Kyoto.

The event will also have a short session where Mieko will teach children/adults to paint on a little card to take home with them as a memento.(a little flower or a Japanese character or a bird)

SORA - The Sky  (Visual Art Exhibition)

Paintings of the sky and what flies through the sky - like heavenly creatures and birds will adorn the walls of the EU Cellars gallery.   Before her paintings were subdued with pastel colours but Adelaide has had an influence on her work.
She says that ever since she has started coming to Australia her works have gotten bolder and stronger.  Mieko has been coming here for 5 years now and has been inspired by the Australian landscape. Her delicate brush strokes display this influence, creating a new "world" of bold striking colours of blues and golds that fill the canvas.
