Welcome to The Garage International
at Adelaide Fringe 2010

Adelaide Fringe is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
And The Garage International has a exciting programme for all - The Fringe in
North Adelaide.

The ever-popular show, "Pick of the Fringe" will be on at EU Cellars and will be hosted by Bruce Gordon of EU Cellars.  He knows his wines and he knows the shows too.  "Pick" introduces a variety of artists and lets them give a 'taster' of their show.  Come meet the artists and see what they have to say.  It's a great way to decide what you want to see.  4-6 artists will be introduced per show.
The "Pick of the Fringe" opens on 18th Feb at
7:00pm.  There will be an opening of Mieko Nishimura's painting exhibition from 4-6pm.  And you can also have a taste of Japan.  (yes - sake tasting)

NACC opens with Koto Music Concert which received rave reviews last year.  We will have a film, "A Woman's Symposium on Love" directed by Katherine Frey which is a semi documentary, a workshop of African and Indian dance by artists Sheela Sheena and Shakti.

This year Divine Elements Belly Dance Company will be performing a wonderful Belly Dance Collective.

The 2nd weekend will be Dances of India with a whole new programme and Shakti with "The Woman in the Dunes" with one ton of sand on stage.  Petite Japanese singer, Satoko, will be belting out Japanese songs and Italian arias in her show, "Requiem".  She will also be playing a piano solo.

And we welcome James Kingsford-Smith, a young and exciting new performer, fresh from Cirque du Soleil's Show in
Shanghai.  "Unenlightened & Alone" reveals the vulnerability of the human nature shown through acrobatic technique which pushes the human body (and emotions) to its limit.

Direct from
Kathmandu, Nepal is the M Art Theatre with a serious and moving piece, "Death Conversation," which talks about the trauma of the people in the 10 years people's war.  Come to learn about the other cultures.  Art is not only to entertain.  It is to educate as well.
Death Conversation will be followed by the colourful dances of the Himalayan Cultural Eve.

Brisbane's Experimental One comes with a touching tale of a boy's lost youth from award winning writer, Anna Krien and with a strong performance by Kate Cooper.  Frank Mainoo and Malcolm Whittaker gives you 2 shows for the price of one.  Both shows deal with the the insecurity and of watching and being watch.
I'm sure many can relate to that.

And finally we have a lovely slide show fariy tale of The Heavenly Bird of Happiness,  Mayura, by Mieko Nishimura.  This is a delight for children.

On the visual arts scenes, The
TGI Collection will have paintings, photographs, and graphic posters from artists representing the 3 continents of Europe, Asia and Australia

A group of 8 artists from
Nigeria will fill Najjars with their exquisite arts and crafts.  First time in Australia.  A true "Window to Africa."

And Mieko Nishimura from
Japan is back again with stunning paintings of the endless sky.

We hope to bring to you shows with a meaning.  The artists have something important to say.  They need YOU, the audience, to bring the show alive.  Many have come from far away.  We hope you will join us in our little world of The Garage International with the Fringe in
North Adelaide.
