Songs of an Immigrant: Tales from Paris
A tragic/comic auto biographical tale of an American woman who leaves her homeland with only an accordion and a handful of songs to discover the city of lights.
A solo performance piece told through old style Parisian Chansons, storytelling and characters, Marni Rice presents the tale of a stranger in a strange land, without the command of the native language except for the songs she memorized by rote before embarking on the journey.
Although she leaves the United States on a trip to Paris for adventure, she stays in France without working papers; making her living performing on the streets and in the Cabarets.
There she encounters numerous characters from underworlds far and wide and through this process learns the songs and the language.
