| Born into a traditional Japanese dance family, Egiku was trained under
her mother from the age of 2. She has now transcended the traditional form and has created her own style of dance based solely on the Japanese dance tradition. Her piece, "The Weaving Crane" received the National Arts Award in Japan as well as rave reviews in Edinburgh. She performs regularily at the National Theatre in Tokyo and has also been in Edinburgh, Avignon, Mexico, and Greece. This is her first time in Australia.
