| Shakti "The Pillow Book"
Spell-binding and breath-taking, exotic and erotic, Indo-Japanese dancer, Shakti's highly-charged performance of The Pillow Book is a celebration of women's sexuality. Interpreted from ancient texts, and inspired by Sei Shonagon's poetry of love and liberation from Japan's Heian era, this dance and its accompanying music evokes the floating world of Kyoto courtesans to take us through rhythms of fiery passion to a finale celebration of female beauty. Described as a journey to esexual oblivionf, Shakti is accompanied by dancers Kumiko Takayama and Fumiko Inamori, arousing a whirlwind of erotic joy, in a performance that seduces the audience. From the teasing beginning to the energetic finale, The Pillow Book is an extraordinary choreographic experience, ending with a live body painting scene with Shakti's naked body daubed in brightly coloured paint by Buddhist painter, Mieko Nishimura, and leading on to a climatic demonic dance. |
