Adelaide Welcome Message
| Hello Everybody: Welcome to the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2007. Yes, the biennial Adelaide Fringe Festival is now turning annual and 2007 will be its launch so there is much excitement in the air. Thus the theme for this festival is "unpredictable" and "airborne" so we are going to fly into the unknown. Are you ready to join us? The Garage International has now expanded into 2 venues. We remain in the west end of town where we always are. In the east end in the parklands there is the world famous Spiegeltent, home of first class cabaret and entertainment. For those who need more than booze and fun, we are here at the other end of town in the Lion Arts Centre complex to present theatre and dance that provokes your mind and stirs your heart. Not all may be pleasant but they will have a message that needs to be spread in this world today. "A Fractured Feeling" by Transcendent Circle Productions from Melbourne is an experimental theatre project that explores what it is to live in multiple realities. Not only will the performers be moving about, so will the audience. And we have dance of course. Sunameke Pacific Island Dance Performance brings "Faifa ke Vavine", a piece which entwines old and new, identity and family in a choreographic exploration of a Papua New Guinean legend. A journey of 1000 miles' 'between two shoresf, an unearthing of the dancers experiences in dealing with their mixed heritage. Southern Cross Tango will give you a passionate and emotional journey into "Meat Market Tango" a story of innocence, abduction, and corruption danced with fierce force and passion. Award winning Japanese dancer, Egiku Hanayagi will dance her interpretation of "Lady Macbeth", Shakespeare's sinister queen. A unique and beautiful insight into Japanese art and culture and it's grace and serene beauty. VasantaMala Indian Dance Institute will present "Dances of India" an array of colourful dances which will definitely be fantastic for the whold family. An evening of fun. UNLV College of Fine Arts direct from Las Vegas comes with a burlesque, cabaret, dance, music piece that can be from nowhere else! Sin City - The Vaudeville Years takes you back into time to Las Vegas. Entertaining and nostalgic at the same time. And then there is Shakti - and as always I will be putting on my exotic and erotic shows. You can see my basis in my Indian Classical Dance. And my trademark piece, "The Pillow Book" with Mieko Nishimura's live body painting on stage will be on for 3 nights. And my piece, "Empire of the Sense" which is a marriage of art and science featuring images of Australian landscape and nature merging with dance will be performed. A revelation of the human body and being and the wilderness and nature merge into the infinite. Yes, there is something for everyone. The cafe is open, the bar is open and we are always eager to communicate. We look forward to seeing you there! Shakti artistic director The Garage International |
