Salome

by Egiku Hanayagi

The story of the princess of Judea who desires the head of John the Baptist has been interpreted and performed in many different genres but this interpretation in classical Japanese style is unique.

The emotions and expressions are portrayed in a controlled way with precise technique instead of the usual abandon one expects in Salome.

One can say this is the first time Salome is performed in Japanese classical dance.

Egiku awed the audience and received rave reviews in Avignon Off Festival in 2011 and 2013.
